How food banks and food security non-profits across the country are preparing themselves for the post-pandemic environment based on lessons learned in 2020
An estimated 40 million Americans will face food insecurity in 2021, despite government interventions, private sector support, and personal contributions to the charitable food system. The lingering effects of the pandemic – including unemployment and poverty rates – continue to drive an upsurge in the demand for food banks.
As the number of individuals and families experiencing food insecurity rose exponentially during the pandemic, food banks and food-related non-profits were operating under emergency conditions, having to find new food sources to replace those impacted by supply chain disruptions. Now, as we emerge from the pandemic, many food related non-profits are taking what they learned in 2020 to build organizational resilience by: improving operations, strengthening the capacity of staff members, leveraging real-time data-driven insights, and expanding their networks of local community partners and government organizations.
Many organizations have been leading efforts to address food insecurity and supporting charitable food organizations with their pandemic response. Join us for this panel discussion where we will bring together executives from Meals on Wheels America, Greater Chicago Food Depository, Rethink Food and Capital Area Food Bank in Washington, D.C. to discuss the challenges they faced over the last year, and how they are preparing for a post-pandemic future.
